Developed as a part of the Agrotate project, the Job Rotation Application Handbook initially introduces the core concept of Job Rotation schemes, with Chapter 1 citing options for potential application alongside examples of international best practice and recommendations for the planning and delivery of all such schemes. In Chapter 2, the focus is on the development and use of electronic management systems, or platforms, highlighting the contribution that such systems can make and confirming the types of activities able to be addressed in electronic management systems. In Chapter 3, the focus is on the identification of training needs, for both employees and their unemployed counterparts, confirming the importance of this activity in terms of successfully delivering a job rotation scheme, with specific examples provided from the Agricultural sector.

Needs, Context and Use

The benefits of Job Rotation systems are clearly highlighted in the Handbook and centre on promoting continuing learning for company employees (in the case of the Agrotate project, this was additionally encouraged through e-learning mechanisms) whilst ensuring that production levels are not disturbed through providing substitute workers, the latter able to benefit from experiential learning in the workplace. Pre-conditions for the introduction of a Job Rotation scheme are also highlighted in the Handbook and include the need to identify a funding model to support delivery, and the importance of having confirmed specific training needs among both employee and unemployed cohorts. The Handbook itself confirms core considerations, actors and steps required for the successful delivery of a job rotation scheme with sectoral examples also provided.
